Kaizer Chiefs have indeed been making a concerted effort to bolster their squad by not only bringing in external signings but also by promoting talent from within their development structures.
According to SABC Sport, Jansen didn’t have a first team contract when he made his debut for Chiefs last term.
However, the Amakhosi hierarchy is working hard to tie him down to a long-term deal after realising his talent.
At 21, Jansen still needs more game time in order to gain more experience, and Nassredine Nabi appears keen to give him just that.
What makes Jansen special is the fact that he’s versatile and has goals in him.
He can play as a left and right winger but he’s also defensive-minded as he can play as a right-back when called upon.
When Jansen joined the Chiefs Diski Challenge team, he played on the right hand side, and scored 12 goals in total.
KAIZER CHIEFS TO TIE DOWN PROMISING TALENT
“SABC Sport can reveal that Kaizer Chiefs are set to offer left winger Donay Jansen a long-term first team contract,” reads part of the report.
“This is understood to be an indication that the 21-year-old is then expected to feature prominently in coach Nasreddine Nabi’s plans ahead of the new Betway Premiership season, which kicks off later this month.”
JANSEN TO BECOME KAIZER CHIEFS’ EIGHTH SIGNING
Jansen’s imminent deal means he will become Amakhosi’s eighth signing for the current transfer window.
To date, Chiefs have acquired seven new players, and they are Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, Gaston Sirino, Fiacre Ntwari, Inacio Miguel, Njabulo Blom and Bradley Cross.
Blom and Cross arrived at Naturena on Tuesday and were unveiled by the club on the same day.
Blom returns to the club that gave him his professional debut a few years ago from Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit St. Louis City.
Cross was signed from Golden Arrows for a reported R3 million, and that’s two years after rejecting him following his trial stint.
