Kaizer Chiefs were believed to be on the verge of finalizing the signing of midfielder Thabo Cele, on a three-year deal, but there could be a spanner in the works!
The midfielder’s contract at Radomiak has the option to extend for one more season and it was expected that the club would take it up, affecting both Amakhosi and Masandawana’s plans of signing the player. But now, according to the latest update, there is now every chance that the original plan could be back in motion.
Thabo Cele’s Return
Thabo Cele was recently home in South Africa, after representing Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup, back in his home province of KZN.
His return also proved to be of good effect, as he ended up winning the Man of the Match award. The KZN Academy graduate had a fantastic game in the middle of the park, although the hosts ended up having to come from behind in order to clinch the victory.
Seeing such a performance might’ve had Chiefs fans reminiscing on what could’ve been, had their club been able to wrap up a deal for Cele two seasons ago. The player himself admitted to waiting for the club to sign him, but nothing materialized.
From there, he ended up plying his trade abroad. The box-to-box star has also made no secret of his love for Amakhosi, growing up as a supporter of the club, so that deal would’ve meant a lot more to him.
It was believed that Chiefs have, indeed, acted on their interest in Cele, offering the player a three-year deal. It was also thought that a deal was edging ever so closer for the player. But now, according to Weszlo.com that move is in grave danger.
CELE TO REJECT CHIEFS?
“Thabo Cele received several inquiries from South Africa – the local clubs were also interested in him before coming to Radom. Then, as now, however, the player rejects the option of returning to Africa and makes it a priority to stay in Europe. At the moment, the club has no special offers and is waiting for the development of the situation,” wrote the Polish publication.
It now remains to be seen if Chiefs will have their Cele dream dashed once again.
