Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly close to signing 25-year-old winger Mfundo Thikazi from Royal AM. This marks a renewed interest, as Chiefs have previously attempted to acquire Thikazi without success.
The player is known for his versatility, capable of playing on both flanks and behind the striker. A source confirmed that while past negotiations didn’t materialize, the current situation at Royal AM—facing financial difficulties and potential expulsion from the Premier Soccer League (PSL)—makes Thikazi’s transfer to Chiefs more feasible, possibly at the end of the season.
Royal AM is currently suspended from all competitions in 2025 due to financial issues, including R40 million in debt to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and an inability to pay player salaries. These challenges have led to speculation that players like Thikazi could be available on free transfers.
