Molefi Ntseki, the head coach of the Kaizer Chiefs, has provided information regarding Edson Castillo‘s transfer from Venezuela.
Castillo had been linked to Amakhosi for some time; however, the club initially turned down the opportunity to sign him last season before he signed a short-term contract with Monagas, where he played for the 2017 league champions in the Copa Libertadores.
However, Chiefs approached him a few months later after noticing his form over the previous six months and realizing they would require a midfielder of his caliber to bolster their starting lineup in the 2023–24 season.
The 29-year-old has already put on some impressive performances while wearing the Amakhosi uniform, winning over the team’s supporters with ease.
Ntseki talked about scouting Castillo after the South American midfielder’s late goal against Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarterfinal.

“We had scouts going to Venezuela watching him, and we saw a player that we needed at the club,” the man claimed.
“Because we needed someone with authority, someone who was sure of themselves, and someone who could handle situations with a little bit of intelligence.
I believe he is contributing to the team.
Castillo is still adjusting to a new culture, nation, and playing style, so Ntseki insisted that more is still to come from him.
“By the way, it is only his third game in South Africa. There is still more to come out of him because he appears to be a very intelligent midfielder.
“In terms of the pace, I think like I said he still has to adjust to the weather conditions in South Africa and also the understanding of the type of opponents we play against the type of players that we always play around him.
“In terms of tactical cohesion and understanding we still have a long way to go to be a solid team, tactically.”
