Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with a move for Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau but it would be an awful idea for several reasons listed here
Why Percy Tau to Kaizer Chiefs Makes No Sense
Prohibitive Salary Demands:Percy Tau is set to earn R23.2 million annually in the first year of his new deal with Al Ahly, translating to roughly R1.93 million a month.
This figure could rise to R31 million in the third year, or about R2 million monthly at the lower end.
For context, Keagan Dolly, who was recently released, was earning R1.4 million a month. It is unlikely that Tau would be willing to take a significant pay cut to join Chiefs.
Financial Strain:Committing to such a high salary would place immense financial strain on Kaizer Chiefs, potentially limiting their ability to invest in other key areas of the squad.
Squad Balance and Morale:Bringing in a player with such a high salary could disrupt the wage structure and morale within the squad, leading to potential discontent among other players.
Alternative Investments:Chiefs could use the funds required for Tau’s salary to strengthen multiple positions, thereby creating a more balanced and competitive team.
Tau hasn’t played well for a while in a Bafana jersey.
Sure, he’s been collecting trophies like stamps with Al Ahly but Percy Tau has failed to deliver for South Africa on the grandest stages. Bafana made it to the Afcon semi-finals but Tau had a tournament to forget on a personal level. With all due respect, if Chiefs need a transformative player, he needs to be somebody rocking it for his country.
Sections of fans don’t want Percy Tau
Tau is now with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, a club with which he has won eight trophies, including the most coveted CAF Champions League. The Lion of Judah will be 30 in May, which begs the question, can Kaizer Chiefs still squeeze some value out of the left-footer?
One fan on The South African called Tau ‘just another Dolly’ while Shad1961 said this:
“His tank is empty, he’s got nothing to offer Chiefs. He’s nothing but a liability to Chiefs. We have a lot of exciting and hungry youngsters, utilise them.
