According to 45min.com, midfielder Gastón Sirino has completed his medical and received clearance from Mamelodi Sundowns, clearing the way for his anticipated move to Kaizer Chiefs. Sirino’s addition is expected to significantly bolster Chiefs’ squad ahead of the new season.
The public broadcaster earlier reported that Uruguayan international Gastón Sirino, now holding a South African passport, had been offered to both Kaizer Chiefs and their rivals Orlando Pirates following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Kaizer Chiefs have decided to pursue Sirino and are officially in talks with him. Coach Nasreddine Nabi confirmed the club’s interest earlier this week. The public broadcaster has established that the 33-year-old has undergone a medical examination following discussions around personal terms.
It now appears a formality that he will soon be unveiled as the latest Chiefs signing – added to the list that includes goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, centre back Rushwin Dortley as well as left back Bongani Sam.
Sirino spent six years at Sundowns, having arrived during coach Pitso Mosimane’s tenure and had expressed a desire in following ‘Jingles’ to North Africa at Al Ahly and in the Gulf region, but Downs were not willing to sell.
As a free agent now, it’s understood Sirino had received offers from his native South America in Bolivia and Chile, while Young Africans of Tanzania and Stellenbosch FC are understood to have also enquired.
45min.com has it on good authority that Sundowns have now issued Sirino with this clearance to allow Chiefs to register the player should all parties involved reach an agreement, which is expected to only be a formality.
