Kaizer Chiefs’ Transfer Pursuit of Elias Mokwana Falls Short Despite Higher Offer
In a recent revelation, Kaizer Chiefs’ Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, disclosed that the club had submitted a significantly higher offer for Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana than the one made by ES Tunis. The news comes after Mokwana, who had also attracted interest from Mamelodi Sundowns, decided to join the North African side instead of the South African giants.
Motaung Jr addressed the situation during an interview with Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000, where he elaborated on the circumstances surrounding Mokwana’s transfer. He confirmed that Chiefs had not only met the transfer valuation set by Sekhukhune United but had also engaged in extensive negotiations with the club’s representative, Simon Malatji. According to Motaung Jr, Chiefs had even received permission to discuss personal terms with Mokwana, who had verbally agreed to those terms.
Despite these advances, the transfer ultimately did not materialize, with Mokwana opting for ES Tunis. Motaung Jr acknowledged that although the specifics of the offer made by ES Tunis remain undisclosed, he was confident that Chiefs had presented a competitive and compelling offer that exceeded the one from ES Tunis. He emphasized that Chiefs had acted in good faith throughout the process.
Motaung Jr also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to Sekhukhune United for their role in Mokwana’s development. He noted that the club had successfully nurtured Mokwana’s talent, which enabled him to secure a move to a prestigious league in Africa. Motaung Jr’s comments reflect a respectful acknowledgment of Sekhukhune United’s role in Mokwana’s career progression.
As Chiefs look ahead, the focus now shifts to bolstering their squad in preparation for the upcoming Betway Premiership league opener against Marumo Gallants next weekend. Despite the setback in their pursuit of Mokwana, the club remains active in the transfer market, aiming to strengthen their team for the new season.
This development highlights the competitive nature of the football transfer market and underscores the challenges clubs face in securing top talent, even when making substantial financial offers.
