Former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Gastón Sirino is reportedly on the verge of joining Kaizer Chiefs after agreeing to personal terms with the Soweto giants. The deal now hinges on Sirino successfully passing a medical examination, which is expected to be a formality.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who holds a South African passport, could join Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Sirino, a renowned dribbling wizard with a wealth of experience, is expected to add quality and depth to Chiefs’ attack. The club believes his presence will not only bolster their offensive capabilities but also serve as a valuable learning experience for their young players.
Having joined Sundowns in 2018 following a recommendation from club legend Esrom Nyandoro, Gastón Sirino enjoyed a successful stint, winning six league titles and several cup trophies. However, his playing time dwindled under Rulani Mokwena’s management, leading to his departure from the club.
Despite receiving offers from Bolivia, Chile, and North Africa, Gastón Sirino opted to join Kaizer Chiefs, citing his desire to continue playing in South Africa. He boasts an impressive record of 41 goals and 44 assists in over 200 appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns, showcasing his creative and attacking prowess.
Sirino’s signing would excite coach Nasreddine Nabi, who values technical players comfortable on the ball. The Uruguayan’s experience and skillset align well with Nabi’s footballing philosophy, potentially making him a valuable addition to the Chiefs squad.
