Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande is optimistic about the club’s pre-season training in Turkey, believing it will set the team up for a successful upcoming season.
The Amakhosi recently welcomed their new coach, Nasreddine Nabi, who joined them last week. After a disappointing 10th-place finish last season, Chiefs are banking on Nabi to bring about a significant turnaround.
Katsande, who has always been vocal about his love for the club, expressed confidence in the Tunisian mentor’s ability to transform the team’s fortunes. He highlighted the strategic advantage of holding the pre-season camp overseas, emphasizing that the change of scenery is crucial for the players’ mental and physical preparation.

“It’s a good decision for the club to take the boys overseas because they need a bit of fresh air. They won’t wake up and go around South Africa and hear the same stories,” Katsande said as per The Citizen.
He believes that being in a new environment will help the players build team cohesion and spirit. “They will sharpen their swords by staying together and building team cohesion and team spirit. They will see the game differently when they come back.”
Katsande is confident that fans will see a different Kaizer Chiefs this season. “I think you are going to see a different Kaizer Chiefs this season with the same players that were there last season, but the mentality is going to change,” he added.
“That is because of the environment they find themselves in at the moment. They will be thinking about how they can better their performance and be better for the club and hit the ground running.”
Despite bringing in Nabi and his technical team, the Soweto giants have been relatively quiet in the transfer market, with no major signings announced yet.

Chiefs have not won a trophy in more than nine years, and Katsande, who was part of the team that won the league in 2015, remains hopeful that this pre-season preparation will be the catalyst for a successful season ahead.
