Having officially parted ways with Yanga SC, coach Nasreddine Nabi is free to join Kaizer Chiefs who are very interested. So why is the deal taking so long?
It is no secret that Chiefs have been scouring the market looking for an experienced coach to either assist or replace Arthur Zwane, with the club seemingly settling on Nabi.
It is believed that Chiefs had always wanted to appoint a senior coach, even with initial appointment of Zwane. The club started their search internally and offered former Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntsako the opportunity. He reportedly turned down the opportunity, in favour of his current duties, where he oversees all of the footballing matters at both junior and senior level at the club.
It was also then thought thought that Chiefs were exploring the likelihood of making an approach for Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi. That possibility seemed to end as soon as his agent Mike Makaab confirmed that he was still contracted to the Chloorkop-based side for another year.
Last week, this publication also reported that Chiefs also considered making an approach for experienced coach Cavin Johnson. Nothing seemed to come from that. They are believed to be actively in dialogue with Nabi, and having seen him part ways with Yanga on Wednesday night, he remains a big possibility to take over.
Whether their management will try to lure the decorated coach back to South Africa, remains to be seen. But the latest name to be thrown into the hat was DR Congo Florent Ibenge. But nonetheless, it is Nabi that Chiefs are rigorously pursuing and are believed to be trying to iron out a few delaying issues before announcing the Tunisian. With the coach free to join immediately, and the two parties thought to be in dialogue for a while now, what could the delay possibly be?
CHIEFS AND NABI AT LOGGERHEADS
Well according to the FARPost, Chiefs have agreed to Nabi’s demands of bringing his own coaching staff, but the clash is now on how many. Amakhosi have told the veteran mentor that he can bring two, but he is thought to be holding out to bring a third.
It now remains to be seen if Chiefs and Nabi will reach an agreement or eventually end talks over the matter.
