former Bafana Bafana midfielder Quinton Fortune Current Job as an assistant coach at the Mexican club, Guadalajara Chivas. The announcement was made in conjunction with the unveiling of the team’s new head coach, Veljko Paunovic, on Monday night.
Fortune, a former Bafana Bafana international, although will be working alongside Claudio Arzeno and Nuno Miguel Gomes as part of Paunovic’s coaching staff. The trio is set to bring their collective expertise to Chivas as they prepare for the upcoming 2023 Liga MX Clausura season, aiming to reinvigorate the team’s performance.
The appointment of Veljko Paunovic comes as Chivas seeks a fresh start after parting ways with former manager Roberto Cardea. In a statement, the club expressed its well-wishes for Paunovic, anticipating a successful collaboration and positive results on the field.
Before taking up his new role at Guadalajara Chivas, Quinton Fortune had been associated with the England Football Association. He contributed to the England Elite Coach Programme. His wealth of experience includes serving as the Under 23 assistant coach at Manchester United and holding a similar position at Cardiff City Under 21s.
Fortune himself worked closely with former teammates such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his time at Cardiff. He also collaborated with John O’Shea while at Reading, where he served as a first-team coach. His departure from Reading in February 2022 coincided with the appointment of manager Paul Ince.
The challenge ahead for Quinton Fortune at Guadalajara Chivas is significant. The club’s last Liga MX title was secured five years ago. The Clausura 2017 Finals marked their last appearance in the championship, coming 11 years after their previous title. With the infusion of new coaching talent, including Fortune. Chivas is optimistic about turning their fortunes around in the upcoming season.
