After a Thursday night deadline for bids on the midfielder was set, Liverpool’s offer was accepted by Brighton. According to reports, Chelsea was willing to pay up to £100 million for the player.
Caicedo has made it clear that he only wants to leave Brighton for Chelsea, who have been following him all summer, and he is still in London, despite the fact that he was supposed to fly to Liverpool for a physical on Friday.
Chelsea has not yet made a new, improved offer.
“I have already forgotten about Moises,” Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi said. “I’m really proud of the players we have in the squad. Bigger clubs can buy our players but they can’t buy our soul or spirit.”
Late on Thursday night, when Caicedo appeared to signal his desire to move to Anfield, Liverpool formally presented their offer.
“The fee with the club is agreed,” confirmed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Friday. “We will see what that means. We aren’t a club with endless resources and we didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer. Then it happened.”
According to Sky Sports News, Liverpool and Brighton were in negotiations to determine all the financial terms of a deal in the event that Chelsea couldn’t or wouldn’t come to an agreement.
Just after midnight, Liverpool received word that they had won the auction.
Independiente del Valle sold Caicedo to Brighton for £4.5 million in 2021.
