Kaizer Chiefs is reportedly revisiting their interest in former Al Ahly striker, Walter Bwalya. Insider sources close to the club suggest that Amakhosi may now have a prime opportunity to secure the services of the DR Congo striker, who is currently a free agent.
Previously highlighted by Soccer Laduma as a player on Chiefs’ radar, the crucial difference this time is Bwalya’s newfound free-agent status. This development could expedite the acquisition process, allowing the club to bypass the usual waiting period until the January transfer window.
According to a source within the club, the technical team believes that another seasoned striker is essential to address the team’s scoring woes. Walter Bwalya, with his extensive experience playing in Egypt and other leagues, is seen as a potential solution to bolster Chiefs’ attacking prowess.
“The technical team feels that they still need another outright striker, and in one of the meetings, Walter (Bwalya’s) name came up,” revealed the Siya source. “They feel with his experience playing in Egypt and other leagues, that could help with the scoring problems at the club. What I don’t know is whether they have already approached him or his representatives. But I know that the club really wants to bring him on board,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

Another source hinted at the club’s prior interest in Bwalya while he was still with Al Ahly in Egypt. Although negotiations fell through at that time, the current scenario, where the player is a free agent, presents a new opportunity.
“The club inquired about his services while he was still at Al Ahly in Egypt. Things didn’t work out that time, but now since he is a free agent, maybe things will be different,” explained the second source. “The club is looking for a striker, and they have identified Walter Bwalya as their next target. It could be earlier than January because he is a free agent, but it’s also up to the technical team to say when do they need him,” the source observed.
Walter Bwalya, 28, boasts an impressive football history, having been on loan at Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor, Qatar’s AlSailiya, and Saudi club Al-Qadsiah. Before joining Al Ahly in 2021, he left a mark at Egyptian club El-Gouna, netting 16 goals in 35 matches.
