Manchester United first team coach Benni McCarthy has admitted he would be open to Kaizer Chiefs should the club make him an offer, calling Amakhosi one of the great “institutions” in football.

Chiefs have just finished their worst-ever Premier Soccer League campaign, ending in 10th place after losing their final match to already-relegated Cape Town Spurs 2-0.

The club did state they want to find a permanent replacement for Molefi Ntseki, with interim coach Cavin Johnson, under whom the club won just two of their 14 games in 2024, set to step down.

Many names have been linked to the club, with the former Cape Town City and AmaZulu coach also in the mix.

“Not many coaches in the world say no to institutions. Man United is an institution. Real Madrid is an institution. Bayern Munich is an institution,” McCarthy told Robert Marawa on Radio 947.

“Look, Vincent Kompany is gone to Bayern Munich, he is gone to join an institution. And I think Kaizer Chiefs you can safely say that Kaizer Chiefs is also an institution.

“It’s a great club. It’s a club that I’ll always have a lot of love for. Because it’s my local team, my team in South Africa that I supported as a kid. Loved the Black and Gold, everything Kaizer Chiefs.

“Unfortunately, I’ve never had the pleasure to play for them, or to coach them.

“I can’t really speak on others but if the opportunity comes, if the opportunity arise or anything, of course you would have to sit down and think about it because like I said, you don’t say no to institutions.”

McCarthy’s Man United contract is coming to an end of the June and the club are yet to make a decision on his future after he joined Erik ten Hag’s coaching team as striker’s coach two year’s ago.
