Kaizer Chiefs are actively pursuing Mamelodi Sundowns star and Bafana Bafana star Thabang Sibanyoni as part of their strategy to bolster their attack for the upcoming season.
This development follows their recent signing of left-back Bongani Sam from arch-rivals Orlando Pirates and the acquisition of Rwandan goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy.
Sibanyoni, a forward who shone during his loan spell at the University of Pretoria and featured for Bafana Bafana at the COSAFA Cup, has caught the attention of Chiefs’ scouting team. However, securing his signature won’t be straightforward. Chiefs face stiff competition from Richards Bay FC and Magesi FC, both of whom have also expressed interest in the player.
According to a source, “Richards Bay FC are keen to sign Sibanyoni. The negotiations have started. Chiefs and Magesi have also registered their interests, but there is nothing concrete so far. The boy is still contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Chiefs are not only focusing on Sibanyoni. They are intensifying their efforts to sign two Bafana Bafana international wingers, Oswin Appollis and Elias Mokwana. Additionally, they have been linked with several other strikers, including Iqraam Rayners, Lebo Mothiba, and Fiston Mayele, as they seek to strengthen their squad under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

The signing of Bongani Sam, who had two loan stints at Moroka Swallows and hadn’t played for Pirates in two years, represents a historic agreement between Chiefs and their rivals. The addition of Fiacre Ntwari, seen as a replacement for veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, further underscores Chiefs’ commitment to reinforcing their squad depth.
As Chiefs continue their preseason preparations in Turkey, fans are eager to see if the club can secure Sibanyoni’s services and further enhance their attacking options. The upcoming season promises to be exciting for Amakhosi supporters, with several potential new faces ready to make an impact.
