Kaizer Chiefs missed out on signing experienced Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube because of delays in their decision-making process. Dube, who was available and wanted by Chiefs, has since joined Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga).
His agent explained that while Chiefs expressed interest, the club did not move quickly enough to finalize the deal. This delay allowed Yanga to secure Dube’s signature, resulting in Chiefs missing out on the experienced attacker.
WHAT HAPPENED?
George Deda, the agent of Zimbabwe international Prince Dube, has confirmed Kaizer Chiefs were interested in the forward but were beaten by Young Africans to his signature.
After having a misfiring attack last season, Amakhosi are in the hunt for a striker and Deda explains how they missed out on Dube.
The delay by Chiefs in appointing coach Nasreddine Nabi saw a potential deal with the 27-year-old collapsing as he opted to move from Azam to Yanga.
“With regards to Prince Dube’s move to Young Africans, I will not comment and that is for professional reasons,” Deda told The Chronicle.
“What I can confirm is that Kaizer Chiefs reached out to me asking about the availability of the player. It’s true that Kaizer Chiefs were chasing him. I also told Prince about that.
“His Kaizer Chiefs pending deal could not be concluded in time as the club had no coach. The new Kaizer Chiefs coach knew about Prince.”
Dube is not new to the PSL, having previously played for SuperSport United where he, however, struggled for regular football.
How Chiefs failed to land his signature could illustrate how chaotic the transfer business has been at Amakhosi who tried to sign him without the input of new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
That is a gap exploited by Young Africans to seal a deal with the striker.
The Soweto giants are yet to officially announce a new signing although defender Bongani Sam who moved from old rivals Orlando Pirates is with Amakhosi in Turkey.
The next few days will be crucial for Nabi in beefing up his squad and affording new signings more times with the rest of the squad
