Kaizer Chiefs missed out on signing top Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube due to delays in appointing their new coach, Nasreddine Nabi. This misstep highlights the chaotic nature of Chiefs’ transfer dealings, particularly in their hunt for a striker following a lackluster attacking performance last season.
George Deda, Dube’s agent, confirmed the club’s interest, noting that Chiefs had inquired about Dube’s availability. However, the absence of a head coach to lead the negotiations proved to be a significant hurdle. “With regards to Prince Dube’s move to Young Africans, I will not comment and that is for professional reasons,” Deda told The Chronicle. “What I can confirm is that Kaizer Chiefs reached out to me asking about the availability of the player. It’s true that Kaizer Chiefs were chasing him. I also told Prince about that.”

Dube, who has prior experience in the PSL with SuperSport United, was a prime target for Chiefs to bolster their attacking options. Yet, the club’s inability to conclude the deal in time allowed Young Africans to swoop in and secure the striker’s signature. This situation underscores the inefficiencies in Chiefs’ transfer strategy, which was hampered by the prolonged wait for Nabi’s official appointment.
The delay in securing Nabi not only cost Chiefs a valuable player but also demonstrated the club’s disorganized approach during a crucial transfer window. Chiefs tried to sign Dube without the input of their new coach, a risky move that ultimately backfired. The deal’s collapse serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of having a stable and effective leadership structure in place when navigating the transfer market.
In the end, Young Africans capitalized on Chiefs’ disarray, adding a promising forward to their roster while Chiefs were left to reconsider their approach and seek alternative solutions to their attacking woes.
