Kaizer Chiefs have made a big decision about one of their top targets for a big-money transfer, while Orlando Pirates are keeping a close eye on the situation.
Reports suggest that Kaizer Chiefs have given up on their pursuit of one of their key transfer targets. The club was reportedly vying with their rivals, Orlando Pirates, to secure the services of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from Chippa United.
Nwabali, who currently plays for Chippa United, surprised many by becoming Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper during the African Cup of Nations (Afcon), despite having limited international experience. He played a crucial role in Nigeria’s journey to the finals of the tournament, enhancing his reputation and attracting interest from European clubs, which made the deal more challenging for Kaizer Chiefs.
Adding to the competition, Orlando Pirates, Chiefs’ arch-rivals, were also rumored to be interested in Nwabali. There were even talks of a potential swap deal involving Ghana’s goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, along with a cash exchange. However, it appears that Kaizer Chiefs might not be willing to match the demands set by Chippa United.
According to reports, Chippa United has set a price tag of R30 million for Nwabali, which has led Kaizer Chiefs to withdraw from the negotiations.

A source close to the situation revealed, “Kaizer Chiefs have been considering various options for a goalkeeper to join the club next season. Stanley Nwabali was one of the players they were keeping an eye on. However, Chippa United’s high valuation of the player has posed a challenge. Given his outstanding performance at Afcon, he has become a prized asset for Chippa United. At the price they’re asking, it might be difficult for many clubs in South Africa to afford him.”
Despite the setback, Kaizer Chiefs have alternatives in mind. Bruce Bvuma has been performing well recently, and Brandon Petersen is also waiting for his opportunity. Both players have recently signed contract extensions, and the club may opt to look for a younger goalkeeper to serve as a backup option.
