Njabulo Blom, the South African midfielder currently playing for St Louis City SC in Major League Soccer (MLS), is reportedly on the verge of a loan move back to his former club, Kaizer Chiefs.
According to FARPost, Blom and St Louis City SC are set to part ways, with a potential return to Amakhosi in the works. This move would see Blom reuniting with the Soweto giants, where he initially made his mark before making the switch to the MLS.
Njabulo Blom’s situation at St Louis City SC has shifted significantly under interim coach John Hackworth, leading to his fall out of favour in the squad. This change in strategy has made a return to Kaizer Chiefs increasingly likely. Although Blom’s contract with St Louis City SC runs until December, with an option to extend for an additional two years, the club is expected to forgo this option.
“We are talking to another club right now,” confirmed Hackworth. A source close to Blom also revealed that Chiefs have been in discussions with Blom’s management team. A loan move to Chiefs could be beneficial for both parties, as Blom’s playing time has diminished since Bradley Carnell’s exit in July. Returning to familiar surroundings could reignite his career.
How Blom’s return to Kaizer Chiefs could transform the team.
Blom’s potential return to Chiefs promises to add valuable depth and experience to their midfield, offering a chance to mentor rising star Samkelo Zwane. His arrival would also boost Chiefs’ tactical options, allowing Yusuf Maart to assume his favoured ‘number eight’ role while Mduduzi Shabalala or Gaston Sirino could take on the ‘number 10’ position, creating a versatile and dynamic midfield trio.
This move aligns with Chiefs’ active transfer strategy. The club has already secured the signings of Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam, Miguel Inacio, Sirino, and Rushwin Dortley, with Bradley Cross potentially joining soon. Chiefs are focused on bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.
International Career: What’s next for the midfielder?
Blom, a Chiefs academy graduate, also has an opportunity to impress Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos. He has previously earned two caps for the senior national team, making his debut on September 6, 2021, in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana. His second appearance came in a friendly against Eswatini on October 13, 2023. Since then, Broos has not included him in the squad.
