Manchester United’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana, faces increased scrutiny following his performance in the recent 3-3 draw against Galatasaray, where he was held responsible for two goals, leading to the team surrendering a two-goal advantage in the Champions League clash in Istanbul.
Manager Erik ten Hag, however, has staunchly supported his £47million summer signing, emphasizing Onana’s impressive statistics in the Premier League. Ten Hag highlighted that Onana ranks second in saves made, save percentage, and goals prevented, trailing only behind Alisson in the league.
“Players always need trust,” stated Ten Hag, defending his decision to keep Onana as the first-choice goalkeeper. Despite recent challenges, Ten Hag expressed confidence in Onana’s abilities, referencing his past success with Ajax and Inter Milan, where he was among the top goalkeepers.
The manager dismissed the notion of resting Onana, stating that the goalkeeper’s experience and potential are crucial for the team’s success. He acknowledged the support from the coaching staff and players, emphasizing the unity within the dressing room.
