After the recent FIFA break, Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up for another thrilling Soweto derby against Moroka Swallows, and interim coach Cavin Johnson seems to have a few surprises up his sleeve.
In a departure from the norm, Johnson has breathed new life into the squad by reintroducing players like Mduduzi Shabalala and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who were previously on the sidelines. Siyethemba Sithebe, recovering from an injury sustained during training before Johnson’s arrival, might also make a comeback.
The absence of key players due to international duty, including midfielder Edson Castillo and Sibongiseni Mthethwa, presents an opportunity for Sithebe to shine. With fresh legs needed in midfield, Sithebe could see valuable playing time for the first time since the early season clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Reflecting on their recent 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs displayed a renewed attacking vigor in the second half by incorporating wing play, particularly after introducing Christian Saile and Mduduzi. Winger Sabelo Radebe, absent since their August triumph over AmaZulu, could be a key option for Johnson if wing play is part of the tactical plan.
However, defensive concerns loom large for Amakhosi, as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight consecutive games across all competitions. The goalkeeping department, led by Itumeleng Khune, has struggled to maintain stability, with Brandon Petersen out of form. With Khune facing challenges, the question arises: could shot-stopper Bruce Bvuma be the solution if Petersen remains unavailable?

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming clash against Moroka Swallows, Kaizer Chiefs fans eagerly await Johnson’s strategic moves and hope for a revamped lineup that can address both offensive and defensive challenges.
