Kaizer Chiefs is reportedly considering a trial for Zimbabwean striker Walter Musona, the 27-year-old younger brother of Chiefs legend Knowledge Musona.
According to exclusive sources close to both the club and the player, Chiefs scouts have been closely monitoring Musona’s performance, particularly during his recent inclusion in the Zimbabwe national team for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Siya crew has learned that Chiefs representatives or scouts have expressed a keen interest in Musona, who currently plays for FC Platinum in Zimbabwe. The timing of the potential trial remains uncertain, with speculations about it happening either during the AFCON break or possibly sooner, given the imminent conclusion of the Zimbabwean football season.
Sources indicate that Chiefs are on the lookout for a prolific striker who can address their scoring challenges, aiming to capitalize on the numerous chances created during matches. The team’s urgency for a goal-scoring solution is emphasized by the injury to Ashley Du Perez and the lackluster performance of other strikers in the squad.
“Kaizer Chiefs needs a striker as soon as possible. You know Ashley Du Perez is injured, and the other strikers have not been doing very well, and that’s why they need another striker who would push the others,” revealed a source close to the matter. “Walter Musona is their immediate target. But I am not sure when he is expected in South Africa. That could be in the next transfer window or as soon as possible because of the ending season in Zimbabwe,” the source concluded.
Musona’s previous experience in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with Polokwane City and Sekhukhune United adds a layer of familiarity with the league, potentially facilitating a quicker adaptation to Chiefs’ playing style. His track record in South African football could set him apart from other foreign players who typically require time to acclimate.
Despite attempts to reach out to Kaizer Chiefs for comment, no response was received at the time of preparing this report. The football community eagerly awaits further developments as the potential trial of Walter Musona looms on the horizon for the Amakhosi.
