Bongani Zungu Drops Kaizer Chiefs Hint with Istanbul Arrival
Bongani Zungu, the former AmaTuks midfielder who has had successful stints in Portugal, France, and Scotland, has reportedly found a new home after being released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season.
The 31-year-old, who won the Scottish Premier League with Rangers under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, has intensified speculation about his next move by posting a picture on social media of him arriving in Istanbul, Türkiye, where Kaizer Chiefs are currently on a pre-season tour.
Zungu, a former Bafana Bafana international, has had a career marked by notable achievements and challenges. Following his return from Europe two seasons ago, he struggled with niggling injuries that limited his impact at Sundowns. Despite these setbacks, he remains a highly sought-after player, with clubs in North Africa reportedly monitoring his availability closely.
The midfielder’s move to Istanbul has fueled rumors of a potential signing with Kaizer Chiefs, who have shown interest in bolstering their squad for the upcoming season.

Chiefs have been actively making changes, with new signings and departures under the guidance of their new head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Zungu’s arrival in the same city as the Chiefs’ pre-season camp suggests that the club may have secured his services as a free agent.
Interestingly, there were earlier reports that Zungu could reunite with his former coach and mentor Rulani Mokwena, who recently moved to Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.
The prospect of Zungu joining Mokwena in North Africa was seen as a strong possibility, given their previous successful partnership. However, it now appears that Chiefs may have won the race for his signature.
Kaizer Chiefs have been proactive in strengthening their squad, evidenced by their recent signings and the inclusion of several promising young players in their pre-season preparations.

As speculation continues to swirl, the confirmation of Zungu’s move to Kaizer Chiefs would be a significant coup for the club. Fans eagerly await official announcements and hope that the experienced midfielder will bring his talent and experience to the Amakhosi, helping them achieve success in the forthcoming season.
