Kaizer Chiefs seem to be running out of their first choice transfer targets if the latest reports prove accurate.
Chiefs have reportedly seen a few Bafana Bafana player transfer targets slip through their fingers with Elias Mokwana the latest.
Mokwana is set to join Tunisian giants Esperance after they eventually agreed a fee with Sekhukhune United. It is believed that the player favoured a move to Chiefs, initially, with the Glamour Boys being his boyhood club.
That, in the end, didn’t seem to move the needle, as they reportedly made a R12 million offer for his services. It is thought that the offer was some R3 million away from Babina Noko’s R15 million asking price.
CHIEFS HAVE ALREADY LOST MOKWANA TO ESPERANCE
Sekhukhune were believed to be waiting for Chiefs to increase their offer, but it was Esperance who did so. That seemed to also convince Mokwana that they’re the right club for him. According to reports, the Tunisian’s are having a harder time trying to convince Polokwane City that Oswin Appollis should come.
According to his agent Lance Davids speaking to SABC Sport, a deal has been tabled in black and white for his services.
“You’d probably get a better answer from the two clubs, but from our side we did everything possible to try facilitate the move. Our understanding is that Esperance submitted an initial offer, which they later improved but apparently they could not get a response from anyone at the club. Maybe Polokwane City have other offers lined up (for Appollis) that we don’t know about.” Said Davids.

As long as City are not engaging with Esperance, Chiefs should see that as a chance to step up. After their 4-0 drubbing to Yanga SC in the Toyota Cup, it is clear to see they need quality signings. Appollis is a long-term target and after missing out on Mokwana, they cannot let him slip away too.
