Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has commented on the future of player Khama Billiat, whose contract with the club will be expiring in June.
Billiat, who has not played for the team since October due to recent surgery, is uncertain to return to the field for the rest of the season. The Zimbabwean international will turn 33 in August, leaving his future with the Soweto giants up in the air.
When asked about his involvement in Billiat’s future at the club, Zwane stated during a Nedbank Cup press conference, “Everything ultimately comes down to profiling players and planning for the next season. At this moment, we don’t know who will be part of the team next season and who won’t be. Only time will tell.”
Regarding Billiat’s injury, Zwane mentioned that the player is well aware that such incidents are a normal part of the sport and not in his control. “Khama is a mature player. He understands that injuries are a part of football. Some things are beyond our control and we can only hope for the best.
We have been offering encouragement not only to him, but also to other players such as Mathoho, Nange, and Cole Alexander who have been struggling with injuries.” Zwane added that the team is providing psychological support to all players going through similar situations.
