It appears that Mamelodi Sundowns may continue to see high-profile departures, with a top international player potentially moving to Kaizer Chiefs.
It seems that Mamelodi Sundowns are experiencing significant changes, with a star player’s contract ending soon and Kaizer Chiefs keeping an eye on the situation. Additionally, Sundowns have announced the departure of five players and coach Rulani Mokwena, with more exits expected.
Mamelodi Sundowns are undergoing a significant transition, with several key departures. Alongside coach Rulani Mokwena, players Gaston Sirino, Thabiso Kutumela, Brian Onyango, and Bongani Zungu have also left the club. There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of defender Grant Kekana. Kaizer Chiefs are closely monitoring the situation, potentially looking to capitalize on the availability of these players.
Grant Kekana’s current contract with Mamelodi Sundowns is set to expire at the end of the month, and negotiations for a new deal have hit a stalemate. His agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, initially discussed a two-year extension with Sundowns Sporting Director Flemming Berg, but the offer did not include a salary increase.
Kekana rejected this, seeking a three-year extension with an improved salary.Last week, Berg presented a significantly altered offer: a one-year contract without an option and no salary increase, essentially a “take it or leave it” proposal. With this impasse, Kekana’s future at Sundowns is uncertain, and Kaizer Chiefs are likely monitoring the situation closely.

Grant Kekana is reportedly very unhappy with how Mamelodi Sundowns have handled his contract negotiations.
Despite efforts by his business manager, Steve Kapeluschnik, to reconsider the offer, Sundowns have not improved their stance. Kekana is now ready to leave the club, and another round of talks is expected this afternoon in hopes of resolving the impasse.
According to Skepe Matsebane’s post on X.
Kekana is upset with how his contributions are valued by the club’s management. If Sundowns fail to offer an improved deal, Kaizer Chiefs could be a viable option for him.
Kekana does not want to leave, but he knows Chiefs can offer better terms,” a source told Matsebane.
