Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have already started their recruitment drive ahead of the next season, reportedly already signing three players.
Chiefs have already confirmed the signing of SuperSport United centre back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, while also being thought to have signed Mduduzi Mdantsane and Given Msimango.
At the end of the previous season, Chiefs made a massive clear out, getting rid of some experienced players, some of which had not been able to lead Amakhosi to any silverware during their lengthy stays at the club. It is expected that they will also undergo a similar exodus that could see several players forced through the exit door.
After another indifferent season which has seen Chiefs extend their trophy drought, coach Arthur Zwane and the management are believed to be already planning the second phase of that rebuild. Besides the three players they have already reportedly signed, the club has been linked with the likes of Junior Mendieta, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Jamie Webber and Khanyisa Mayo to name but a few. Now according to reports they will get one of those players from Stellenbosch FC, but not the other.
According to The Citizen, Mthethwa ‘will join’ Chiefs in the upcoming transfer window, but will have to pull something out of the ordinary if they are to sign Mendieta too.
MTHETHWA TO JOIN CHIEFS, MENDIETA TO STAY PUT
“They want Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Junior Mendieta. But as things stand, it is Mthethwa who will join them. Stellies have technically agreed to release Mthethwa and coach (Steve) Barker is already working on finding a replacement for him. “I don’t think he will play much in the remaining games as Barker has already identified a youngster he wants to groom into the position. But I don’t see them releasing Mendieta yet unless the money is really good for both player and club.” Said a source to the same publication.
Chiefs have a desperate need in both of those positions, as they lack a powerful midfielder who can cover ground and pick a pass like Mthethwa, but also desperately lack a playmaker who can score and assist in Mendieta. But for the Amakhosi camp, if they had to choose one, then maybe Mthethwa makes sense, having already signed Mduduzi Mdantsane and still having Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in those playmaking positions.
