Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has reached an exciting point in his career. He has been nominated for several CAF awards, highlighting his impressive performances in local and international football.
Williams made history by becoming the first African goalkeeper nominated for the prestigious Yashin Trophy while playing in Africa. He finished in ninth place in the Yashin Trophy rankings, placing him among the top 10 nominees for this award that celebrates the best in goalkeeping. Even though he did not win, it is a significant accomplishment for Williams, showing his talent on the global stage.
In addition to the Yashin Trophy, Williams has also been shortlisted for the CAF Men’s Footballer of the Year award. He is up against notable players such as Simon Adingra who plays for Brighton FC, Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain), and Ademola Lookman (Atalanta).
Furthermore, Williams is nominated for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award, competing with top goalkeepers like Andre Onana, who plays for Manchester United. He has also received a nomination for the Inter-Club Player of the Year award.
