Remember Kaizer Chiefs’ interest in SuperSport United’s Luke Fleurs? New reports say the Soweto giant still have the player’s name on their list.
We have found two possible reasons why
According to the newest reports from the leading transfers outlet Soccer Laduma, the 22-year-old central defender, Fleurs, could have a future at Naturena.
The Ubuntu Cape Town academy graduate was thought to be on his way to the Glamour Boys but coach Arthur Zwane seemed to have settled for Zitha Kwininka and Edmilson Dove.
But it is all not over for Fleurs’ possible Amakhosi dream, who already has 64 games and two goals for United at the age of 22.
“The Siya crew has been informed that Kaizer Chiefs have not closed the door on making a move for SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs in the future,” Soccer Laduma reported in their latest edition.
“Amakhosi were heavily linked with the player last season and are said to have identified him as a possible inclusion in the squad to add quality in the defence,” the report added.
The report further said Amakhosi had eyes for TS Galaxy’s Given Msimango but a lack of urgency resulted in Msimango signing a new deal with The Rockets.
Chiefs will thus consider Fleurs at the end of the season, the report’s conclusion said.
WHY ARTHUR ZWANE COULD BE KEEN ON FLEURS
Reasons for any given club’s interest in players will always vary, for Amakhosi, it could be based on the situation of two existing players.
While coach Zwane has been fairly rotating his central defending options, two players have hardly be given any real minutes: Erick Mathoho and Thabani Dube.
With the clock ticking towards the January transfer window and both players aged 33 and 29 respectively, game-time is what they need. We are mostly likely to see at least one of them leaving Naturena in January or the end of the season.
This is where Fleurs comes into the picture as a replacement.
