There appears to be no chance that Chiefs, or any other team, would be able to secure the services of highly-regarded Junior Mendieta.
It’s been reported for quite some time that Kaizer Chiefs could be interested in signing Stellenbosch’s Junior Mendieta as they look to make some key additions to their squad for next season.
Reports suggest that Mendieta has also been recognised as a sought-after player who could improve Chiefs’ offence, although they would have to pay a sizeable fee considering he is under contract at Stellies, and viewed as a integral member of the team.
According to a recent issue of Soccer Laduma, Mendieta – who has a contract with Stellenbosch through to next year – in fact has a buy-out clause amounting to a considerable R12m.
Chiefs, Pirates, Sundowns and even Sekhukhune have all been linked with possible interest in Mendieta at one point or another, but considering what it would take to secure the services of the Argentine playmaker, it was always unlikely that any club would be willing to part ways with a sizeable buy-out fee.
According to another report by Phakaaathi, Stellenbosch FC management have issued an instruction that they will not be wiling to consider the sale of any players at the end of the season.
There is a no-sale tag placed on the entire squad because the management wants to build a solid squad for next season,” a source commented
