Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be in the process of shaking up their goalkeeping department, with news of a departure from their ranks at the end of the season.

Chiefs have had a goalkeeping department full of depth over the years, even during the current season with Brandon Petersen, Itumeleng Khune and Bruce Bvuma all competing.

That competition, however, as often resulted in just one goalkeeper getting the bulk of the game time, while the other two take turns in being the back up on the bench. This season, both Khune and Petersen have had their fair share of game time, with both having had a period of sharing the number goalkeeping duties. One keeper that has hardly had that type of luck during his time at Chiefs is Bvuma.

Bvuma has often had patches of game time over his five-years as a Chiefs senior team player. His last real stint as a number one was at the backend of the 2020/21 season, where he had an incredible run that saw Amakhosi reach the CAF Champions League final, where they were eventually comprehensively beaten by Al Ahly.

The next season, Chiefs appointment Stuart Baxter to the position of head coach, a move many thought would eventually be the catalyst for Bvuma to finally step up and become the club’s number one. After all, Baxter was the coach who saw potential in the Limpopo-born keeper, taking him to AFCON 2019, as his third choice, despite minimal game time with Amakhosi

His fortunes hardly changed under the British manager, and his yoyo fortunes at Chiefs have continued. Despite getting a few opportunities to start this season, Bvuma has clearly not used them well enough to impress coach Arthur Zwane and co. That is because he has again found himself as a third choice goalkeeper this season. According to reports just last week, the club themselves have decided to cut their losses with the player at the conclusion of the season.

BVUMA LOOKING TO FINALLY LEAVE CHIEFS

Now according to the latest reports, Bvuma has also approached Chiefs and informed them of his desire to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

“ News reaching the Siya crew is that after weighing up his options under the current prevailing circumstances, Bvuma has opted to request either a loan move elsewhere or seek a permanent move to where he can get regular game time”. Soccer-Laduma wrote.

At the age of 26, this certainly does seem like the right move for Bvuma, as it does not look like he will ever command the starting jersey at Chiefs.
