New head coach Nasreddine Nabi is keen on acquiring Fiston Mayele, a former striker from Yanga SC who currently plays for Egyptian club Pyramids FC. Despite previous links to Kaizer Chiefs, securing Mayele’s services could hinge on meeting a reported asking price of approximately $1.2 million (R22 million). This move would significantly bolster Chiefs’ attacking options for the upcoming season.
Sources close to the situation reveal that Nabi has specifically urged Amakhosi management to pursue Mayele. Emphasising his familiarity and past success with the striker during their time together at Yanga SC.
It is believed that the coach has made requests for two strikers. One is a Botswana international (Tumisang Orebonye) and the recent one is former Yanga SC striker from DRC, Fiston Mayele,” said an insider.
Chiefs had previously considered signing striker Mayele before his move to Egypt, when his valuation was lower. The current price tag poses doubts, considering Pyramids FC’s steep demands compared to previous negotiations.
“You know before he moved to Egypt, Chiefs were interested in him and at that time Yanga were looking for close to R10m. So that’s where the doubts are but the coach has shown interest in him because he knows him as he worked with him at Yanga for two seasons and he knows what he can do. We are yet to see if something will come up soon,” added the source.
Alongside Mayele, Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly eyeing Tumisang Orebonye, a Botswana international, to bolster their striker force. The team aims to secure reinforcements amidst uncertainties surrounding Ashley Du Preez’s potential move to Portugal.

“For them, they feel like most of the strikers are wingers and not outright strikers. That’s why they want to sign at least two strikers and also in anticipation of Ashley Du Preez’s move to Portugal, they want to have a replacement ready if that move happens. That’s why the technical team has identified Fiston Mayele as one of the strikers they would like to bring to Naturena,” explained the second Siya source.
As Kaizer Chiefs gear up for the upcoming season and a friendly match against Yanga SC in South Africa, the pursuit of Mayele and Orebonye underscores their commitment to strengthening the squad under Nabi’s guidance. These potential signings aim to address tactical needs and enhance the team’s competitive edge in the DStv Premiership.
