Nabi Wants a Striker for Christmas as Chiefs Struggle in Front of Goal
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has emphasized the urgent need for a powerful striker following his team’s 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership clash on Monday at Mbombela Stadium. Chiefs required a stoppage-time goal from Ranga Chivaviro to secure a point, after Samukele Kabini gave Galaxy the lead with a first-half header.
Nabi openly acknowledged Chiefs’ ongoing struggle to convert chances into goals and stressed the need for reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.
“It is true that we feel up top, we have the same kind of players who like to dribble and play in short spaces,” said Nabi. “But we lack a bit of power, players who can shoot and make decisive decisions.”
The coach highlighted the lack of physicality and cutting-edge finishing as major weaknesses in Chiefs’ attack. Nabi described a potent striker as the “perfect gift for Christmas” and hinted at the club’s intention to bolster the squad during the transfer window.
Despite the late equalizer, Chiefs’ performance left much to be desired. Nabi admitted his side started the game poorly, losing possession and physical duels in the opening 20 minutes.
“We didn’t start well in the first 15-20 minutes, we were losing the ball very easily, and all the duels were won by our opponent,” he added.
While Nabi pledged to work with the current players to achieve better results, the need for fresh attacking options remains critical. Chiefs have been linked with potential signings, and the January window could prove decisive for their season.
With the Soweto giants aiming to turn their fortunes around, a clinical striker may be just what they need to restore their dominance in South African football.
