Nasreddine Nabi Sets Sights on January Transfer Window to Revive Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has openly called for reinforcements in the January transfer window to address his side’s struggles in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs are ninth on the table after nine games, with three wins, three draws, and three losses, a far cry from the standards expected at the club.
Speaking after a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy, Nabi admitted his team’s start to the season has been underwhelming. “We didn’t start well,” he said, citing misplaced passes and a lack of dominance in the opening stages of the game. Despite tactical adjustments that saw Chiefs regain control, their inability to convert chances remains a concern.
The Tunisian tactician highlighted the need for diversity in the attacking department, identifying a lack of power and decision-making up front. “We have players who like to dribble and play in short spaces, but we need more variety—players with power who can shoot and make quick decisions,” Nabi explained.
This admission comes as Chiefs continue to search for consistency under the former Young Africans SC coach, who took charge earlier this year. Nabi emphasized that the club must prioritize signings of the highest quality to match the expectations of a team with Chiefs’ stature.
“The perfect gift for Christmas would be players who can strengthen the team,” Nabi added, reiterating his commitment to improving results. While he acknowledged the squad’s current limitations, he remains optimistic about turning things around.
With the January transfer window approaching, Chiefs fans will be eager to see if management backs Nabi’s vision by bringing in the players needed to reinvigorate their season. For now, the pressure is on the coach and his squad to close the gap to the league’s frontrunners.
