Miguel Gamondi and Neil Tovey led Mamelodi Sundowns to the 2005/06 Premier Soccer League title as co-coaches.
It is a combination the Bafana legend believes can deliver silverware for Chiefs who last won a trophy in 2015.
The Soweto giants are currently eighth in the PSL and out of all cup competitions and on a run of four games without a win under interim coach Cavin Johnson.
Tovey believes he can team up with Gamondi to turnaround the Naturena-based club.
WHAT TOVEY SAID
“Gamondi is a good person, a good man, he knows his game,” Tovey told KickOff.
“He can adapt. As a coach, you [have] got to adapt to your team, otherwise it’s gonna take another two, three seasons to get things right.
“For him to get the style right, he’s gonna have to acquire players that can play to his style,” the former Bafana captain said.
“I don’t think he’s got only one style because you [have] got to be adaptable as a coach.
“You can’t just come with one style because if someone messes with your style, then you can’t go anywhere,” he continued.
“A coach [has] got to be adaptable and plan for different situations in different games. Playing away from home is not the same as playing at home.
“Well, Sundowns are a big team and he won them the league, so definitely, he can handle the pressure,” continued the ex-Chiefs skipper.
“He will need an assistant coach who understands the club and the environment though.
“Personally I’ve got no problem [being his assistant]. I’d love to help Chiefs, I’ve always said that.”
A number of coaches have been linked with Amakhosi including Alexandre Gallo, Pitso Mosimane, Jose Peseiro, Benni McCarthy, Manqoba Mngqithi and ex-Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
If Gamondi is shortlisted as one of the coaches to replace Molefi Ntseki, his familiarity with the PSL would be taken into consideration although it is now a long time since he left South Africa.
Tovey would also be considered as a former Amakhosi captain and having also worked as Safa technical director.
The Argentine is on course to win the Tanzanian league as Young Africans are five points on top of the Tanzanian league with a game in hand.
That makes his already impressive CV glow and undoubtedly make him an attractive proposition to teams looking to improve their situations.
