Kaizer Chiefs’ interim coach, Cavin Johnson, finds himself on shaky ground following the team’s recent loss to Milford FC. The defeat, as highlighted by Kaizer Motaung, casts doubt on Johnson’s prospects within the club.
In a stunning turn of events, Milford FC, a side from the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC), emerged victorious over the Soweto giants, securing a 5-4 victory on penalties at the iconic FNB Stadium. This result not only extended Chiefs’ trophy drought to a staggering decade but also underscored the uphill battle facing Johnson.
The loss against a team positioned 12th in the lower division seemingly seals Johnson’s fate, leaving his bid for the head coach role in tatters.
Looking ahead, it’s crucial to revisit Motaung’s recent statements regarding the club’s coaching situation. In December 2023, the Chiefs’ chairman outlined plans for the upcoming season, emphasizing the need for a new coach.

Speaking through SportsLIVE with BBK, Motaung disclosed. “I cannot say at the moment how many CVs are on the table, but the process is underway. We haven’t initiated discussions with any candidates yet, but we have established a framework to facilitate the recruitment of a new coach. As you rightly pointed out, Mr. Johnson is currently serving as interim coach.”
