Kaizer Chiefs Move On from Ex-Orlando Pirates Player Target
Kaizer Chiefs have continued their signing spree with a third signing this week, confirmed ahead of next season. Chiefs management have been hard at work trying to bolster their squad, and the club has already secured three new players to strengthen their ranks.
Three Signings So Far for Amakhosi
Amakhosi started their signing activities with the acquisition of Orlando Pirates left-back Bongani Sam. Sam, who had been on loan to the other Soweto giants Moroka Swallows for the last two seasons, saw his second stint end in controversy after just six months. Unfortunately, his start to life at Chiefs has been delayed by a serious injury to his left leg, casting uncertainty over his immediate impact.
This may be where the third signing comes in, with Rushwin Dortley joining the club from Cape Town Spurs. Although not yet formally announced by Chiefs, his sale has been confirmed by the Western Cape side. The 22-year-old is a left-sided player who can play both as a center-back and a left-back. Dortley’s versatility could prove invaluable, especially with the injuries to both Sam and Edmilson Dove. Dortley’s inclusion in the squad is timely, as he is likely to be thrust straight into action to cover for the injured defenders.
The second signing is that of TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari. Chiefs may possibly see the Rwandan international as a replacement for veteran shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune. Before securing Ntwari’s services, Chiefs had been linked with a plethora of goalkeepers, including Stanley Nwabali, Salim Magoola, and former Pirates star Richard Ofori.
No Chiefs Move for Ex-Pirates Star Ofori: Right Decision?
According to Soccer-Laduma, Ofori may no longer be an option for Chiefs. “Ghanaian international goalkeeper Richard Ofori may have to look beyond Kaizer Chiefs in his search for a new club. According to sources, Chiefs are unlikely to sign another experienced keeper, with the club also monitoring the progress of young Takalani Mazhamba, who did exceptionally well during the recent Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge, which Amakhosi won,” wrote the publication.
With 29 clean sheets in 58 games, Ofori has a proven track record, but Chiefs seem focused on developing their younger talent. Takalani Mazhamba, who impressed in the recent youth tournament, might be seen as a future asset for the club. Chiefs’ strategy appears to blend immediate strengthening of the squad with a long-term view of nurturing young talent.
For Amakhosi fans, the club’s decision to move on from the potential signing of Ofori might be a point of discussion. As the new season approaches, Kaizer Chiefs are making significant strides in preparation, aiming to reclaim their status as one of South Africa’s premier football clubs. The new signings, despite the initial setbacks with injuries, bring fresh hope and potential for the challenges ahead. Fans will be eagerly watching how these additions blend with the existing squad and contribute to the club’s ambitions in the upcoming season.
