Kaizer Chiefs might face an unexpected challenge with their newly appointed assistant coach, Fernando Da Cruz, as FUS Rabat from Morocco is reportedly interested in hiring him as their head coach. According to African football journalist Mickey Jnr, preliminary talks have already taken place, and the offer from FUS Rabat is very tempting. If Da Cruz accepts the offer, it would be a significant blow to Chiefs and their new head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, as Da Cruz is a key part of Nabi’s technical team.
Nasreddine Nabi’s appointment as the head coach was confirmed by Chiefs on Sunday, ending months of speculation. One of the key reasons Nabi agreed to join Amakhosi was because they allowed him to bring his own technical staff. This condition was crucial for him, and the club wasted no time in granting his wish. As a result, Nabi found familiar faces upon meeting up with Chiefs in Turkey, including assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, who had already been at Naturena for two weeks, putting the returning squad members through their paces. The team also added new conditioning coach Majdi Safi.
Additionally, second assistant Khalil Ben Youssef and performance analyst Ayman Makroud will be joining Nabi’s technical staff. However, the potential departure of Da Cruz, who played a significant role in preparing the squad for the upcoming season, could disrupt their plans. Mickey Jnr, known for his accurate reporting on Nabi, also first broke the news of Da Cruz’s appointment as Chiefs’ assistant coach, lending credibility to this latest development.
Losing Da Cruz at this critical juncture would be a considerable concern for the Glamour Boys. Chiefs will need to closely monitor the situation and possibly make contingency plans if Da Cruz decides to leave for the head coach position at FUS Rabat. His departure could affect the team’s preseason momentum and overall strategy for the upcoming season.
