Magesi FC, newcomers to the PSL Betway Premiership, takes an early lead to hold Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-2 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The hosts took an early lead through Wonderboy Makhubu’s header in the 6th minute, catching Amakhosi off guard. Magesi FC continued to press for a second goal, but Kaizer Chiefs’ defense held firm until halftime.
In the second half, Edmore Chirambadare, a former Kaizer Chiefs player, extended Magesi FC’s lead with a beautifully struck free-kick in the 72nd minute. However, Mduduzi Shabalala sparked a dramatic turnaround for Amakhosi, scoring two goals in quick succession (77′, 78′) to level the contest.
Kaizer Chiefs coach was left frustrated with the refereeing decisions, calling for the introduction of VAR in the PSL. “We believe there was a penalty on Duba. The second goal they scored should have been a free-kick for us,” he said.
The draw marks a impressive start for Magesi FC, who acquired position 11 in log table after six games.
