Kaizer Chiefs will be without Itumeleng Khune and Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana with their replacements being CONFIRMED for the next Soweto derby!
Chiefs take on Orlando Pirates in the Carling Cup semi-final on 12 November 2022.
However, they will be without club captain Khune and fire new recruit Bimenyimana. Therefore, two men who weren’t originally selected by Amakhosi supporters will have to step up and we know who they are!
CHIEFS REPLACEMENTS FOR KHUNE AND BIMENYIMANA
PETERSON STEPS UP IN GOAL FOR KHUNE
Khune was confirmed as the most popular footballer in the PSL and Mzansi. However, he has been ruled out of contention for this match and will be replaced by Peterson in between the sticks.
Goalkeeper Brandon Peterson will replace Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune in goal for the Soweto derby and Carling Cup semi-final against Orlando Pirates on 12 November 2022.
BILLIAT IN FOR BIMENYIMANA
Furthermore, Bimenyimana faces the same fate as Khune as he will also miss this showdown.
Therefore, his place in the team will be taken by PSL veteran, Khama Billiat.
Both replacements are based off the latest Carling Cup votes.
There is still just over a week to go but Peterson (over 23 000) and Billiat (over 53 000) are comfortably ahead of the votes. Therefore, they will almost certainly start the Soweto derby and Carling Cup semi-final clash on 12 November 2022.
Furthermore, this is a massive opportunity for Billiat who has underperformed for several seasons now. To make matters worse, he has dealt with injury concerns while the likes of Ashley Du Preez and Bimenyimana have been signed and both players have the full backing of Arthur Zwane.
Kgaogelo Sekgota has also risen to form. Meaning, Billiats place at Chiefs is in jeopardy. This could be his last chance to make an impact for Chiefs or he could find himself out the Naturena door in January.
For Peterson, he has a point to prove. Initially, he was Amakhosi’s first choice before Khune’s return saw him dropped to the bench.
Now, he will want to show he can stand up in the big games, when it matters most.
