Kaizer Chiefs and Arthur Zwane welcome back TWO Amakhosi legends to the starting lineup for the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.
Talk about great timing!
For the first time this season, Chiefs will start both Amakhosi legends!
Currently, Itumeleng Khune and Erick Mathoho will start the Carling Black Label semi-final against the Bucs.
Chiefs take on Pirates on 12 November 2022 in what will be the second Soweto Derby in a fortnight.
However, this is no ordinary Chiefs side. Fans have had their say and surprisingly, Mathoho is still widely respected and favored by Amakhosi supporters.
Therefore, he will earn a rare start for the first time this season. Furthermore, Mathoho currently has 24 704 votes, comfortably ahead of the other defenders.
KHUNE IS BY FAR MZANSI’S MOST POPULAR PLAYER
While Khune is the most voted for player in Mzansi, yet again. However, he is in a race against time to be fit.
Amakhosi’s captain has more votes than Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu combined! Khune’s 112 779, more than double any other Chiefs or Pirates star. Therefore, if he is fit he will captain Chiefs in the Soweto derby.
This is the first time that both legends feature under Zwane and Dillon Sheppard (since they were appointed permanently). However, it is quite fitting that the two men who have had so many Soweto derby moments start.
Amakhosi’s legends return, welcomed by another club legend Siphiwe Tshabalala on the sidelines! Amakhosi Amahle!
