Kaizer Chiefs are keen on signing DR Congo international striker Fiston Mayele from Young Africans SC ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Mayele, 28, has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in Africa since his move from AS Vita to the Tanzanian giants where he’s netted over 50 goals over the past two seasons.

Chiefs were initially linked with the player in the off-season but never launched an official move for his services, as they opted for the signings of Ashley du Preez and eventually Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana on a free transfer.

45min understands that the club has informed the Burundi international that he is no longer part of their long-term plans and Mayele has now emerged as a serious transfer target as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season.

However, the stumbling block will now be the transfer fee, with Mayele, who has expressed interest in making a switch to South Africa, still having one year remaining on his current deal at Yanga, as confirmed by the Tanzanian club.

Mamelodi Sundowns were amongst the clubs who were monitoring the player over the last 12 months but opted against making an official move after several deliberations on whether he would fit into their tactical system, while Peter Shalulile’s injury this season was also not as bad as first feared by the technical team.

At present, there’s been interest from Morocco, Switzerland, and Egypt for Mayele, who has netted six goals in the CAF Confederation Cup this season, but sources close to the player confirmed he’s also open to a move to the DStv Premiership as he seeks a new challenge.
