Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up for a potential spending spree as the January transfer window approaches.
The Soweto giants have set their sights on two marquee midfielders, Feisal Salum of Azam FC and Thabo Cele of Russian club Fakel Voronezh. However, landing these targets will not come cheap.
Salum, a 26-year-old attacking midfielder, has been in sensational form for Tanzanian side Azam FC. Known for his creativity and knack for scoring goals.
Salum bagged an impressive 19 goals last season and already has 9 to his name in the 2024-25 campaign. With his contributions helping Azam secure qualification for AFCON 2025, the Tanzanian star is a hot commodity.
Chiefs will need to part with a hefty R15 million to secure his services and offer a staggering monthly salary of R222,000.
Negotiations with Azam could prove tricky, but Chiefs are reportedly prepared to outbid his current club.
Chiefs Face Potential Exodus as Six High-Profile Players Face Uncertain Futures
Meanwhile, 26-year-old defensive midfielder Thabo Cele could provide the steel Chiefs need in midfield. Cele has been plying his trade in Russia but is reportedly keen on a return to South Africa due to homesickness.
The former Radomiak midfielder has made 27 appearances for Fakel Voronezh since his move in August 2023.
Chiefs would need to fork out around R10 million to bring Cele back home. With just five Bafana Bafana caps, Cele may not have a glittering international career, but his European experience makes him a valuable asset.
If Chiefs can secure both players, they will add a perfect blend of flair and defensive solidity to their squad.
Coach Nasreddine Nabi will undoubtedly relish the opportunity to shape a more balanced and competitive midfield unit as the club aims to return to its glory days.
