Sibongiseni Mthethwa to Kaizer Chiefs would not add up. Given a position to bet, we say Amakhosi will not make the move. Here are the reasons why.
REPORTS: KAIZER CHIEFS LINKED WITH MTHETHWA
As it has been reported across the entire nation, the 28-year-old defensive midfield workhorse is a wanted man.
Chiefs have been identified as one of the clubs hunting for his signature.
Among those thought to be interested in Mthethwa are the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates – that is how hot his name is right now.
WHY GOING TO NATURENA WOULD MAKE ZERO SENSE
Coach Arthur Zwane underlined as the new man in charge of Chiefs, laid out a few key factors he would focus on. One of those was retaining the club’s lost playing style and identity.
Having watched Zwane’s side this season, we have seen just what ‘10111’ is working towards, including the type of players signed. What is further clear are the type of midfielders Chiefs need for the football Zwane wants.
The style essentially has dominant ball possession and short passing combinations. The midfielders are ball-playing runners.
Looking at Mthethwa and the style in which Stellenbosch FC play, the player is what you call a destroyer.
He is a ball-winner, and tackler for a team that does not keep high possession.
He does not suit Zwane and Chiefs’ playing style.
The 28-year-old would struggle in a team that keeps high ball possession.
What balls will he win if Chiefs constantly have the ball? Instead, we will find supporters getting on his back for lack of passing and creative skills.
