Gaston Sirino Faces Contract Termination Threat at Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs’ star signing Gaston Sirino is on thin ice as reports of disciplinary issues threaten to derail his tenure with the Soweto giants. The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who joined Chiefs from reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, has reportedly clashed with management over his off-field behavior.
According to Soccer Laduma, Sirino has allegedly faked injuries and refused to participate in training sessions, telling medical staff he did not join Chiefs to train. This attitude has frustrated head coach Nasreddine Nabi and the club’s hierarchy, forcing them to consider tearing up his contract should his behavior not improve.
Sirino’s move to Chiefs started on a high note. He quickly established himself as a creative force in midfield, providing key goals and assists as the team adapted to Nabi’s tactical approach. However, in recent weeks, Sirino has either been benched or omitted from the squad altogether, leaving fans confused.
His antics off the field come as a sharp contrast to his early-season form, which had even sparked speculation about a potential Bafana Bafana call-up due to his South African passport. National team coach Hugo Broos, however, ruled out the possibility, citing Sirino’s age as a limiting factor.
Despite the controversy, Kaizer Chiefs are determined to focus on their upcoming fixtures. They are set to face Polokwane City on Sunday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, aiming to maintain their momentum under Nabi. Whether Sirino will feature remains unclear as the club weighs its options regarding his future.
The unfolding saga has disappointed many Chiefs fans, who had high hopes for Sirino to replicate his Mamelodi Sundowns success. Now, the onus is on the player to repair his relationship with the club and prove his worth on and off the field.
