The Portuguese has struggled to adjust to Ten Hag’s tactics this season and has been a shell of his former self. Ronaldo will be replaced with a more active No. 9 in January, and the Dutchman is prepared to do so. Old Trafford’s top priority is a new striker, even if the 37-year-old stays. Osimhen has become the front-runner for the position, and Ten Hag’s methods are anticipated to work well with the player’s attributes. Ronaldo’s inability to press has raised questions about his effectiveness in the Dutchman’s setup.
CR7 has managed just three goals from 16 appearances across competitions for Manchester United this season.
Osimhen, in comparison, has scored nine goals in as many Serie A games, propelling Napoli to the top of the division. The player’s contract expires in 2025, though, and is worth £100 million. Since Napoli is vying for their first top-flight championship since 1990, they are unlikely to allow him to go in the middle of the season.
