Baroka FC, eyeing a return to the top-flight league in South Africa, has made a significant call about the future of their head coach, Dan Malesela. This decision follows their recent loss to AmaTuks on Sunday in Pretoria.
The 1-0 defeat in the first game of the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs at Tuks Stadium dealt a blow to Baroka FC’s aspirations of reclaiming their spot in the elite league.
Baroka FC, also known as Bakgaga, are currently vying for promotion to the DStv Premiership next season, having finished third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. However, their journey back to the top started on shaky ground after the loss at Tuks Stadium, where they conceded a goal with just two minutes remaining due to a lapse in concentration at the back.

Following the setback, Baroka FC has decided to suspend Malesela for the duration of the playoffs. Malesela was informed of this decision on Monday afternoon. The reasons behind this move remain unclear, but the club is set to proceed with new leadership on the sidelines for the remaining matches. It’s worth noting that Malesela will continue to receive his full salary during this period of suspension.

Reflecting on the team’s situation after the match, Malesela expressed the pressure they now face with three matches left to play. He emphasized the need to win all remaining matches to secure promotion, acknowledging the intensity of the competition and the importance of seizing every opportunity.
Baroka FC’s upcoming fixture is against Richards Bay FC at home on Saturday, followed by a clash with AmaTuks on Wednesday, 12 June. The playoffs will conclude with an away game against Richards Bay FC on Wednesday, 19 June.
