Bafana Bafana international Kamohelo Mokotjo has spoken glowingly about Kaizer Chiefs and said it’s a club he would be open to joining should he return back to South Africa since first heading to Europe in 2009.

The experienced midfielder is currently unattached following his decision to part company with USA’s Major League Soccer outfit FC Cincinnati in January.

“I did a month and a half pre-season with FC Twente with the objective of getting a contract there, but I had a set back with my knee. I was cleared two weeks ago and I am completely fit at the moment,” said Mokotjo in an exclusive interview on Sports Night Amplified with Andile on Metro FM.

The host then put it to the 31-year-old on whether he would consider taking up a playing opportunity in the Premier Soccer League, where he has only ever made a single appearance for SuperSport United prior to moving to Holland.

Mokotjo has played for Feyenoord, Excelsior, PEC Zolle, FC Twente (all in the Netherlands), Brentford in England as well as the USA.

With callers on Wednesday night asking Mokotjo to consider signing for Amakhosi if an offer is tabled, Ncube asked the player for his reaction.

“Chiefs has a good history. I played against them a lot in the youth and they were very intimidating. But there’s not much I can say, I see they are building. It’s a wonderful club and it deserves more. So, I would be open to that,” he said.

Although Mokotjo was snapped up by Feyenoord as soon as he turned 18 and as such did not get to have a full taste of life in the PSL, his experience is invaluable.

“I think I would consider that. It’s not really something to be scared of because I know I have my footballing quality – the best aspect of me is my mind, my mentality.

I know there’s a lot I would change because I have obviously played in different countries”.
“I have the experience, and that also teaches you to know what to expect in games and at certain clubs.

But I also know how to stay grounded and keep two feet on the ground at all times. Football is an evolving game, I am ruling out nothing at the moment,” the player explained.

He spelled out his expectations regarding potential suitors, adding that money should not be a deterrent.

“I think it would be recognising my experience because I want to help the young boys and impart that on them too. They need that, the sooner the better. It’s going to have to be a balance – the professional side and the financial side”.

“Money is important, but it is not the most important thing. What I want to do is, if the opportunity presents itself, I want to go where there’s a winning mentality. I want to enjoy my football and my home country,” Mokotjo concluded.
