Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has made no secret of the fact that they will look to bolster the squad in the next transfer window, and the club appear to be in the process of fine-tuning a profile of possible players – and particularly strikers – they will look to target in the next transfer window.
The club did make some notable changes to both their management and playing group during the pre-season, and there have been some encouraging signs recently to suggest that a “rebuilding phase” could start to reap rewards in the near future.
However, there are also clear indications that Amakhosi could look to make a couple more squad additions in the next transfer window, with the recent loss to Chippa as well as the team’s semi-final exit from the MTN8 once again highlighting that Chiefs are far from the finished product.
Furthermore, Chiefs’ relative lack of depth in terms of strike-power has been exposed after an injury worry over Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who has been carrying a considerable weight of responsibility on his shoulders.
Recently, Zwane was asked whether the club would look to add more players to their squad when the transfer window re-opens in January, and he responded emphatically to say this would “most definitely” be the case.
It was something he elaborated on after the MTN8 clash on Sunday, but it’s not still completely clear whether Chiefs will find the players they desire.
“If there is a player who we think is good enough to come and play for Kaizer chiefs and he is available, we will definitely bring him on board, just to beef up here and there,” Zwane said this past weekend.
“At the moment, the only thing we need to do is to do it properly, rather than rush into things because we want to give the players who are part and parcel of the team an opportunity to showcase their talent.”
Zwane is looking for Chiefs to be more clinical in front of goal, and he recently revealed that they need a player who can also ease some of the pressure and responsibility on Kgaogelo Sekgota.
Interestingly, sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has also confirmed to the Kosibay that the club are busy with changes in their scouting department.
“We are busy with the scouting department, we also have identified a few candidates in certain positions, and we will be adopting a different direction, something we haven’t done before,” he added.
“That’s an integral part to us achieving some success and also some of the boys that you are seeing now, that’s already part of the process of our scouting already. It’s well on the way and the new structure is coming and looking forward to what it can achieve for us.”
