Randburg Magistrate’s Court Delivers Verdict on 2020 Assault Case, Ending Player’s Professional Dreams
In a stunning turn of events, a former PSL football sensation has been dealt a devastating blow to his career prospects.
Following a recent ruling by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on June 6, 2023, it appears that the once-promising athlete may never grace the professional football field again. This grim fate comes as a consequence of his guilty conviction for assaulting his former girlfriend, Fundiswa Mathithibala.
The case, originating from a complaint lodged at the Midrand Police Station back in September 2020, has been closely followed by fans and legal observers alike.
According to the charge sheet, Mathithibala had paid a visit to Lorch at his Midrand residence, only to be abandoned when he opted to join his friends for an outing. The evening took a dark turn upon Lorch’s return, leading to a heated argument between the pair and ultimately resulting in the football star unleashing his violent side.
The trial’s proceedings exposed a lack of credibility in Lorch’s testimony, according to Phindi Mjonondwane, the Gauteng spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority. In light of this revelation, Lorch’s fate was sealed. Initially arrested on September 7, 2020, and subsequently released on R2,000 bail, he now awaits the final sentencing, set to take place in July 2023.
The once-revered player’s dreams of a flourishing football career now lie shattered, as the dark consequences of his actions have caught up with him. The judgment serves as a harsh reminder that no amount of talent or past glory can escape the ramifications of personal misconduct.
The maximum penalty for a basic assault which causes harm is imprisonment for three years. For an aggravated offence of assault causing harm, the maximum penalty is four years imprisonment.
